For this adrenalin adventure our experienced raft guides will prepare you to skilfully tackle some of Wales’ most demanding white water, before leading you on a 12 mile downstream where you’ll encounter several grade 3-4 rapids including – stoppers, eddies, drops & of course the infamous “Hell Hole“!

How our rafting days run?

Your rafting day with Black Mountain Adventure.

Our rafting sessions run on the upper section of the River Wye, between Builth Wells & Glasbury-on-Wye, where you’ll encounter some of the most thrilling white water rapids Mid-Wales has to offer!

On the day of your white water rafting experience you’ll need to arrive at our activity centre near Hay-on-Wye at 9:15am. Here you will meet your guides and get kitted up with a wetsuit, buoyancy aid, cagoule & helmet. Once everyone’s ready we will whisk you away in the minibus to the starting point (approx. 20 minutes drive) where you will be given a safety brief & instruction before making your 12 mile decent downstream, and the fun begins!

What about lunch?
You will be on the river for approx. 4 hours. To prevent participants getting cold we don’t stop for a lunch break, but you will have a short 15 minute break for a snack & drink. We suggest having a good hearty breakfast prior to arriving and pack a snack i.e. chocolate bar, piece of fruit, energy bar which your guide will carry on the raft for you. Don’t worry about drinks, your guides have got you covered with hot chocolate & hot squash to go round!

Conditions:
White Water Rafting takes place on a natural river and is fully dependent on water levels to run therefore, all participants are asked to choose an alternative activity at the time of booking. In the unfortunate circumstance that the water levels are insufficient on your chosen date, you will take part in your chosen alternative activity.

The centre was extremely accommodating . The weather was extreme so we had to change our activity. White water rafting was so much fun and the instructor Hayden was so funny but professional at the same time. He really made the activity humorous and looked after us.

We booked Black Mountains Activities for 3 days, Caving, River Gorging, High Wire, Mountain Biking and White Water Rafting. Booked a weekend of activities as a Birthday present from my girlfriend. We originally planned to do white water rafting for a day followed by a half day caving & half day gorge walking. We were informed on arrival that the rafting couldn't take place due to low water levels, which was absolutely fine. We then swapped to a half days climbing and half days gorge walking instead. The gorge walking and caving was amazing, such an experience and not at all what I thought it be. I would highly recommend black mountain activities. It was a great customer experience and a great weekend overall.
